그러면 그리스도의 능력의 근원은 어디에 있었는가?
44 그리스도는 위장된 인성을 취하신 것이 아님(빌 2:5-8; 히 2:14-17)―그리스도에 관하여 이렇게 기록되어 있다. “주께서 내 주께 이르시되 내가 네 원수를 네 발 아래 둘 때까지 내 우편에 앉았으라 하셨도다 하셨느니라.” 위에 기록된 말씀의 참 뜻을 깨달으려면 그리스도의 인성에 관한 진리를 실제로 깨달을 필요가 있다. 그리스도께서 취하신 인성은 위장된 인성이 아니었다. 그는 인성을 취하시고 인성으로 사셨다.
그리스도는 자기 자신을 위해서는 단 하나의 기적도 행하시지 않으셨다. 그는 연약에 싸여 있었지만 그의 신성은 사람 속에 무엇이 있는가를 아셨다. 그는 아무도 이런 일에 관하여 증거해 줄 필요가 없었다. 성령이 한량없이 그분께 주어졌다. 지상에서 수행해야 할 그의 사명이 이것을 필요로 했다. 그리스도의 생애는 완전한 인간의 생애를 대표한다. 그는 우리의 연약함을 취하셨다. 그는 육신이 되셨을 뿐 아니라 죄로 가득한 육신의 모양이 되셨다. 그의 신적 속성들이 그의 영혼의 고통이나 육신의 아픔을 경감시키지 못하도록 되어 있었다(편지 106, 1896).
44 (Phil. 2:5-8; Heb. 2:14-17). Christ Took No Make-believe Humanity.--Of Christ it is said, "And being in an agony he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground." We need to realize the truth of Christ's manhood in order to appreciate the truth of the above words. It was not a make-believe humanity that Christ took upon Himself. He took human nature and lived human nature. Christ worked no miracles in His own behalf. He was compassed with infirmities, but His divine nature knew what was in man. He needed not that any should testify to Him of this. The Spirit was given Him without measure; for His mission on earth demanded this. Christ's life represents a perfect manhood. Just that which you may be, He was in human nature. He took our infirmities. He was not only made flesh, but He was made in the likeness of sinful flesh. His divine attributes were withheld from relieving His soul anguish or His bodily pains (Letter 106, 1896).
